In 2012, Shivani Mathur received medical counsel to stop using oil paints because the corrosive fumes they emitted during the drying process were eroding her cornea. She made a courageous trade. She exchanged a box of oil paints for a stick of charcoal.
These charcoals became symbols of the resilience and regeneration that lies at the heart of her practice.
